Lifestyle Medicine, a new medical field and its importance to health and longevity

Lifestyle Medicine is a branch of evidence-based medicine in which comprehensive lifestyle changes are used to prevent, treat, and even reverse the progression of chronic non-communicable diseases (NCDs). Lifestyle-related diseases - such as obesity, diabetes, hypertension, heart attack, cancer, stroke, etc.- are the leading causes of death and disability today. Prevention of such diseases (NCDs) is often substantially less expensive than treatment and can create significant economic value for patients and the community. Proper lifestyle interventions in nutrition, physical activity, stress management, sleep, social habits (alcohol, tobacco), sexual health, and the environment are the keys to better health and contribute to longevity. For this, there is a need for more specific information and education for health professionals on this new topic.
