Deliver Better Everyday Health with Humanity and its link with Longevity

Mariana Real Carvalho

General Manager at Haleon Portugal, Lisboa, Portugal

“The only way to do great work is to love what you do”, used to say Steve Jobs. After more than 23 years working in multinational companies, with a diverse international experience spanning Portugal, United States of America, the Caribbean and Central America, I can proudly say I do. Master’s degree in Economics from Católica Lisbon School of Business and Economics, my career started in 2000 in Nielsen, learning about consumers, shoppers and how to translate data into insights and actions that propel brand and category growth, with the soul objective of helping companies to satisfy and meet their consumer needs.

After almost 10 passionate years of helping other companies with data, analytics and insights, it was time to move to the manufacturer side, and drive action into business. In Diageo, I had the opportunity to lead and develop large cross-cultural and high-performing teams, influencing business decisions, and using strategic thinking to unlock growth and deliver strong results.

Succeeding 6 years of an amazing experience in the United States, I returned home, to the roots and essence and leverage the family love and support in bringing up my 2 y.o. son. In 2018, a new adventure and passion started with GSK and the exciting world of Consumer Healthcare. And how exciting it has been!  I’m currently the General Manager for Haleon Portugal, the world leading Consumer Healthcare company, with an exceptional portfolio of category leading brands (such as Voltaren, Centrum, and Sensodyne), that puts people first and delivers better everyday health with humanity.

Deliver Better Everyday Health with Humanity and its link with Longevity

Our Healthcare systems are under enormous pressure. It is estimated that, by 2050, approximately 30% of the European population will be aged 65 or older, and that people will be living with an increasing number of chronic conditions and co-morbidities needing increasingly costlier therapies. Self-care has great potential empowering people, easing the burden on overstretched NHS’s. In this fast-moving world, with information widely accessible and sizeable unmet consumer needs, we at Haleon have the responsibility to drive prevention and to equip people around the world, making better everyday health more inclusive, sustainable and achievable. This is our vision, our goal and our purpose, as prevention is key to longevity.
