Precision Medicine for Healthy Longevity: Lifestyle Interventions for Optimal Aging

The United Nations predicts that the population of those aged 65 years or older is set to rise from 9.3% in 2020 to 22.6% by 2100. With increasing disease burden in old age and epigenetics being a major influencer in aging, the quest of healthy longevity has become a paramount challenge. The current era of medicine is focused on treatment, when the best way to navigate the health landscape is through predictive, preventive medicine. Precision medicine can pave a way for personalized risk stratification and interventions to extend healthspan. These interventions will help lower the economic burden of disease. Precision medicine research integrates genetic, metabolomic, microbiome, and lifestyle data for interventions that are custom made to more accurately predict risk and then optimize health outcomes throughout life. This data can be used to prevent, manage or even reverse chronic diseases, promote physical and cognitive function, and enhance healthspan and lifespan. This emerging field is benefitting from inclusion of AI and digital health tools for the prediction of risk and creation of laser focused interventions. The exciting challenge is to combine the latest precision medicine evidence and AI tools to create interventions that are precise, personalized and preventive.
